To have the kind of autonomy that you were able to just buy 20 computers for an unproven (?) project sounds amazing. I'm love hardware and I seem to feel more-driven and determined in writing software when I can see it running on some hardware in front of me. You lose that when you're in the Cloud. It's still strange to me that I can pay $1000/mo for virtual machines that I will never see, hear or touch.
